We have a winning ticket with such a big jackpot in California

Anyone's guess who will claim the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history, valued at about $1.765 billion. The winning ticket was sold in early October at Midway Market & Liquor in Frazier Park, 70 miles from Los Angeles. This follows the largest-ever Powerball Jackpot won by a Californian in November 2022.

The $1.765 billion winner's identity remains undisclosed, and they have a year from the draw to come forward, as per California Lottery spokesperson Carolyn Becker. Lottery officials typically withhold confirmation until a thorough investigation validates the claim.

Eighteen states allow Powerball winners to stay anonymous, but California isn't one of them. The claiming process, from the lottery office visit to public announcement, may take months.

The winning numbers for the historic prize were 22, 24, 40, 52, 64, with a Powerball of 10, announced by the California Lottery on October 11. The winner can opt for a lump sum of $774.1 million before taxes or receive 29 annual payments, increasing by 5% each year.

The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot like this are 1 in 292,201,338. Winners can claim up to $599 at retail locations and higher amounts at Lottery District Offices, either in person or by mail. The processing time for claims is typically 6-8 weeks, varying case by case.

California's lottery draw games offer winners about 180 days to claim, while Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot winners have a year. For details, visit the California Lottery website.
